durometer polyurethane

Have you heard of durometer polyurethane before? It is a long and complex word maybe but it boils down to something really simple. Let’s break it down! The term for how hard or soft an item is “durometer.” It is a special, plstic that has many uses; on the other hand, "polyurethane". Thus, say we have durometer polyurethane = this: all that really means is how hard or soft the particular type of plastic in question is.

The hardness of the polyurethane is measured with a durometer tester. A small metal tip in the tester. We use this tip to get the hardness of polyurethane; we press it onto plastic surface for checking how soft that is. The tester provides us a number which indicates how tough or soft the plastic is once pressed. This number is very critical as it tells us whether or not the material will be strong enough in its intended application.

How to select the right durometer for your polyurethane projec

The very first is what are you going to be doing with your Polyurethane. If the product has to be very strong or receive damage then you should choose a harder durometer. A higher durometer = stiff plastic which will be more durable/less likely to snap. Conversely, if you want the material to bend or deform easily then a softer durometer would be an idealorse. In more details, durometers are linked with lower damping characteristics and increased flexibility that can be so important in some applications.

The durometer of polyurethane can alter significantly the characteristics and performance properties of the plastic. Harder durometers, as a general rule of thumb lead to more rigid, rugged materials. This means that products with a higher durometer can have more longevity and be used in rougher conditions. Used someone with a softer durometer of the rubber will be more ductile and can absorb impacts. This is particularly good news for products that need to endure impacts without breaking.
